C. Andrew Poon Biography

Andrew has over thirty years of business experience with several companies providing multiple services to oil and gas companies ranging in size from the two-person, entrepreneurial independents to the super majors like Shell, BP and ExxonMobil. He started his career with Schlumberger as a field engineer on drilling rigs, moving on to executive management through diverse assignments of progressive responsibility in engineering, sales, operations management, acquisitions and divestitures consulting and marketing. Andrew has worked on long term assignments in Venezuela, Trinidad, Brazil, Canada, USA, the Middle East and the UK.

A customer focused professional, Andrew is experienced in all aspects of developing, marketing, selling and executing top quality service to a demanding, super analytical customer base, typically represented by engineers and finance professionals. The consequences of poor product or service quality ranged from non-productive financial and opportunity costs to serious personnel injury or environmental damage. In order to address these challenges, Andrew has developed and led multi disciplinary teams to facilitate product delivery. He also coordinated the first strategic alliance between Schlumberger and Shell in North America, with clear economic value added to both companies. 

With his broad experience and skills in identifying the common objectives between the customer, the supplier and the people in the supply chain, Andrew likes to works with the appropriate team, coaching them to develop and execute the best plan for the business. 

Andrew has led strategic marketing for a seismic company as that company grew from an equipment supplier, to a geophysical company, expanding their market to companies like BP, Shell and Chevron. He also enjoyed employing the range of skills required in growing a startup company here in the USA. The startup, a technology based company initially started in Europe, relocated to the USA and has since been acquired by a large international corporation. He joins Chief Outsiders from Weatherford, where he was VP for new technology adoption. 

Professional: Chartered Engineer (C. Eng.) - Institute of Engineering and Technology (IET, UK), member Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE), and Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE).

Activities: Andrew is a distance runner having run several marathons, 5 and 10Ks. He enjoys wine tastings, chess, swimming, and spending quality time with his wife and two active teenaged children.
