Michael Morrison Biography

For more than twenty years, Michael has led marketing for growing companies in the financial services, travel and hospitality, healthcare, high tech and nonprofit industries.

He has collaborated with CEOs and other senior level executives at startups, as well as well-established national and international companies, serving as a key strategic partner in the development of business strategy, branding, new or evolving products, client loyalty and retention initiatives and improving the customer experience.

As the SVP of Marketing and Communications for D.A. Davidson, a diversified financial services holding company, Michael helped accelerate growth for business units providing wealth management, registered investment advisory, corporate finance, public finance, trust services and institutional services.

As a former company president with a history of P&L ownership, Michael brings a holistic approach to collaborating with sales, legal & compliance and key stakeholders to deliver solutions designed to meet the needs of a diverse clientele and their unique audiences.

Michael also possesses a keen appreciation for the role of marketing in helping define a company’s mission and culture. In particular, his inside-out branding work has been recognized for its impact on employee engagement and operating performance.

Michael has worked with companies in the B2B, B2C, and B2B2C industries, leading the development of marketing and communications that distilled often complex concepts to meaningful stories that resonated with audiences, stimulating behavior and driving positive business outcomes.

With a background in the performing arts as an actor, director and musician, Michael combines the art and science of 21st century marketing in ways that connect with the people his clients care about most. He has also helped executives and company spokespersons with media training, coaching and speechwriting.

Michael is a native of Montana, now residing in Portland, Oregon with his wife, Cathleen and dog Alice. He has a long history of community involvement serving United Way and a variety of community arts organizations. He is also an accomplished public speaker, presenting on topics that include “The Generous Enterprise – A Blueprint for Success in the 21st Century”, Employee engagement and the customer experience.
