  • In his role with CEC Entertainment, Jon was responsible for major expansion of their marketing efforts including:
  • Developing highly effective co-marketing partnerships with leading national brands including Disney, Blockbuster Video, Kraft, Minute Maid and Nickelodeon.
  • Restructuring internal and external marketing support resulting in on-going annual savings of over $2MM.
  • Introducing a custom email database and CRM system that grew to over 2 million active users and functioned as a highly efficient sales-building and data collection tool.
  • Establishing the brand’s very first internet initiative which supported $50MM in annual revenue encompassing party reservations, research, recruiting, media, and guest relations.
  • Creating the first-ever bilingual TV ad for children on Nickelodeon’s Dora the Explorer as well as partnering with Telemundo, Univision, and Televisa to establish the company’s first Hispanic marketing initiative

Jon Rice Biography

Jon Rice is a senior marketing professional with 30 years of experience building brands through strategic insight and innovative creative solutions. He has worked with such leading national brands as Marriott, Pizza Hut, Chuck E. Cheese's, Ponderosa and Bonanza Steakhouses, Taco Bell, and Church’s Chicken.  

Most recently from 2010 through 2014 he served as CMO at Homestyle Dining, operators of Bonanza and Ponderosa Steakhouse Restaurants.

From 1995 to 2005, Mr. Rice led the marketing team responsible for the turnaround of Chuck E. Cheese's, elevating it from a $300 million brand to the $800 million segment leader. While there, he managed a staff of seven who functioned as an in-house advertising agency, and Mr. Rice was responsible for a $28 million budget supporting all company communication and creative needs including public relations, media planning and placement, store merchandising, web development, print production and promotions.

Jon’s marketing expertise has been honed in situations where brands faced dynamic changes in their operating environment due to economic and competitive challenges or  the evolution of their business model.  

As Director of International Marketing for Church’s Chicken, Jon oversaw marketing support for an international division of 250 franchised restaurants. During this period he developed marketing launch plans for entry in to China, the Philippines, and Taiwan. He also supported the launch of a co-branding partnership between Church's Chicken and Harvey's Hamburgers in Canada.

From 1989 through 1994, Jon held senior marketing roles with two divisions of the Marriott Corporation. At Host Marriott, he guided the introduction of branded F&B concepts into 15 airports representing over $200MM in concession accounts. This entailed the conversion of over 30 generic food service locations to various licensed brands including Starbuck’s, Dunkin Donuts, Mrs. Fields Cookies, Burger King and others. As Director of Marketing at Marriott Family Restaurants, Jon managed all marketing activities for a group of 100 family restaurants and was responsible for the local media plans, brand positioning, creative strategy, and menu development.

Jon also had the privilege to be part the early development of Pepsico’s restaurant division when he started his career on the advertising agency side of the business working with Tracy-Locke/BBDO on the Taco Bell account and then with Pizza Hut. Both of these roles provided Jon with an appreciation of the importance of establishing a strong working relationship with franchisees and a hands-on understanding of local media planning and execution. Jon developed some of the very first trade area marketing efforts for Pizza Hut’s introduction of restaurant-based delivery.

In addition to Jon’s extensive experience in B2C marketing, in his four years as a Chief Outsiders he has applied a retail sales perspective to helping B2B sales teams succeed in the insurance, health care, medical technology, transportation, and non-profit categories. Jon also recently served as CMO consultant for Marketing Vitals, a cloud-based POS analytics software system for restaurant systems which generates unique visual perspectives on critical performance data including sales, transactions, menu mix, as well as guest and employee behavior.
