Ian Gomar Biography

A transformation can be a challenging experience – particularly in the business world, when emotions run high, stakeholders are watching – and millions of dollars are on the line. For more than 30 years, enterprises and individuals that have found themselves in need of reinvention have made one call to smooth the pathway to reinvention – summoning Ian Gomar to take charge.

In joining Chief Outsiders, Gomar brings with him an impressive track record of leading some of the world’s most recognizable names in fashion and retailing through an inflection point in their business. His expertise in brand management and e-commerce is equaled by his seeming proclivity for knowing exactly what strategies to implement in a turnaround situation.

Recently, as Chief Marketing and E-Commerce Officer for Sears Holdings, Gomar achieved double-digit operating profit growth for two straight years in the fitness category for Sears and Kmart, reversing five years of prior declines. Returns to fiscal health also resulted from his intervention while leading retailing operations for shoe manufacturer Steve Madden and European women’s ready-to-wear retail and wholesale apparel and accessories brand Olsen Fashion.

Today, while taking assignments with Chief Outsiders, Gomar is rubbing shoulders with sports royalty, serving as president of Shaquille O’Neal Enterprises (the retired NBA star’s consumer property arm) and as a partner in Pheasant Hill Consulting, which focuses on helping accelerate the growth of digital marketing start-ups.

A performance driven marketer relying on technology, data analytics and consumer insight to help create customer segmentation, acquisition and retention strategies, Gomar offers particular expertise in developing and executing successful omni-channel retail marketing strategies and plans. Gomar also can help businesses develop their marketing and merchandising integration strategies and build and lead high performance teams.

Gomar earned his Master’s in Business Administration, Marketing/Management from the University of Miami, and has a Bachelor of Science, Communications/Marketing from Boston University.
