Bill Stewart Biography

Bill Stewart is a results-driven marketing and sales executive with a track record of delivering growth to companies large and small.  Bill is an expert at developing growth strategies based on customer competitive and business insights.  He is passionate about finding new ways to spur growth in existing businesses and in developing businesses form the ground up.  He has led marketing for new companies and for established businesses as large as $20 billion in revenue.

Bill joins us most recently from Credit Karma, where he led an overhaul of the Credit Karma brand and helped drive growth in membership from 30 miilion members to over 65 million members.   Before Credit Karma he worked at two other start-ups in San Francisco, including Sunrun, a company that executed a successful IPO in 2015. 

Before his foray into the San Francisco tech world, Bill was Chief Marketing Officer for Kmart, a $20 billion retailer.  At Kmart he authored strategies that led to the chain’s first same store sales growth and market share gain in a decade.  Prior to Kmart Bill led marketing for the Dockers brand at Levi Strauss and Co., reinvigorating that brand and driving share and sales gains.

Bill started his career at General Mills and Coca-Cola, where he learned the basics of marketing.  Between Coca-Cola and Levi Strauss he helped launch two Internet companies, including Ashford, a company that executed a successful IPO in 1999.  Bill has won four Effie Awards for advertising effectiveness along with Mercury and Webby awards.  He has lectured at Stanford University and The University of California at Berkeley.

Bill holds a BBA from the University of Texas at Austin and an MBA from the Wharton School.
