Beth VanStory Biography

Beth VanStory, has over 25-years of experience as a consultant, executive, and marketer. Her background crosses consumer and b-to-b-to-c sectors and includes specific experience in ecommerce, digital media, marketing and entertainment, e-commerce, automotive, mobile apps and patient care.

She excels at driving profitable growth through building collaborative relationships, employing customer insights, and exercising financial rigor. An early adopter, Beth helps clients leverage technology to fuel growth and innovation. Her experience spans from start-ups to Fortune 500.

A forward-thinking leader, Beth is adept at developing market-focused growth strategies. Combining financial acumen with a creative eye and practical sensibility, she is a skilled problem solver, decision maker, and communicator. She is often hired by former colleagues and rehired by former clients. 

Beth often serves as interim CMO, devising business plans, launching new products, and directing marketing teams. Her deep expertise in marketing, combined with her early foundation in finance and later experience as an operating executive, enables her to serve many roles as a trusted advisor to executives. She is also an ICF Credentialed Coach. 

Prior to consulting, Beth was CEO/CMO and Board Member of AutoSquad, a mobile tire and brake service company. Coming in to a 7-year old startup, Beth increased order conversion rate by 30% with 2 months and doubled the upsell rate. She also led all marketing efforts including agency selection, creative direction, media buying, rebranding, and all promotional efforts. Beth also raised $1.5 million in equity.

Earlier Beth served as President of iMotors, an online used car retailer, where she managed the entire customer experience, from acquisition through delivery including business development, marketing, sales, service and systems development and operations, directing 150 employees. Beth also helped raise the company's Series E funding of $62.5 million. 

As Vice President, online at Office Depot, she led the launch of the www.officedepot.com, reaching profitability in its first year. OfficeDepot.com won both the CIO Web Business 50/50 and Retail Network Innovation awards twice and ComputerWorld named Beth e-commerce Executive of the Year. 

As VP/GM of New Media for The Weather Channel, Beth led the award-winning weather.com site to become a top trafficked content site. Beth was also a member of the Strategic Planning team.  

Beth began her interactive experience as Director of Marketing for Bell Atlantic’s Interactive Television (now Verizon FIOS) trials where her team won a CTAM Mark Award for its work. Previously she held several product management and marketing positions with MCI where she focused on b-to-b services to companies of all sizes. 

A leader in interactive technology, Beth has spoken at numerous conferences both in the United States and abroad. She has been profiled and quoted in publications including Newsweek, Communications Week, Information Week. She has appeared on CNET and testified before Congress regarding issues in the high tech field.

Beth is a former board member of shop.org, Michael’s Stores, and Phthisis Diagnostics. She currently sits on the advisory board of Mom Made Foods and is a mentor at the Kogod School of Business at American University. 

She holds an MBA from Northwestern and an undergraduate degree in Finance and Management Information Systems from the University of Virginia.
